Carl and I were part if the same medical 'family' at university, and we also worked together as F1s. Although we had not been in touch in recent years, I have always had very fond memories of those times, starting out our careers together. Carl was always immensely kind, supportive and patient with friends and colleagues alike. Nothing was ever too much trouble if he could help in any way at all. He was also an exceptionally talented student and doctor. I was very saddened to hear of his passing and my thoughts and love are with his family.
